Spring is here!

Spring is a wonderful time of the year, lots of sunshine and perfect temperatures so there is no better place to be than out in your gardens. There are so many jobs to do and it is worth putting a little effort in at this time of year so that you reap the benefits later in the season.
Spring is the main time of the year for feeding, watering, fertilizing and pruning. Deciduous trees are breaking bud, citrus are producing a flush of new growth and stone fruits are covered in blossom and they will all benefit from a deep drink. If you have not yet pruned your trees, take your secateurs with you on your afternoon walks and cut out any dead wood and wayward branches from your fruit trees.
Whether you use an Organic Fertiliser (like Blood and Bone or Dynamic Lifter) or a Non-Organic (like the many granular and powder versions of fertiliser), check out our product gallery on the Soil Improver web page for the range of fertilisers we stock. Spring is the best time to lavish your garden. Large or orchard type plants, spread a couple of handfuls around the drip line. Smaller trees and pot plants, spread a handful around the base, but away from the trunk or stem as this may cause burning.
Mulch has 2 forms, it can be organic, such as bark chips that decompose overtime and increases the soils ability to hold water. It can also be non organic such as rocks and pebbles, all of which are aesthetic and an effective way to keep the soil moist. We stock both organic and non organic mulch so pop in to see which would best suit your garden as now is the time to preserve moisture and there is no better way than Mulching.
This is also the time of year for laying turf, and aerating your lawns as this will allow water to penetrate deeper into the soil to encourage a deep root growth. Spring is also a perfect time to Top Dress your turf as this is when your lawn is springing back to life after the chill of winter. Best to spread and ensure the tips of the turf can be seen after application. We have Sir Walter Turf available weekly so if you order on a Wednesday we can deliver on Friday ready for your weekend of laying turf.
Pop in to see us about your garden needs and happy gardening!
