Underturf Soil (Trade Mix)
Underturf Soil or "Trade Mix" by WLS is carefully screened to ensure a fine, easy-to-level soil which is crucial for professional turf laying. While designed with turf laying in mind, it is also suitable as a budget soil for garden beds or re-levelling. The carefully controlled composting process kills seeds and weeds giving your turf or garden the best start possible. WLS Underturf is pH neutral, natural smelling, low odour and safe for a wide range of plants including most natives.
We recommend a minimum 100mm to 150mm thick layer of Underturf to be spread before laying turf as this is the zone most grassroots will establish in.
At 100mm thick you will need 1 cubic metre per 10m2 of area to be turfed (at 150mm you will need 1m3 for every 6.5 square metres).
Spreading some Lawn Launcher (starter fertiliser and moisture holding water crystals that capture and store several hundred times their weight in water and fertiliser - one 3kg bucket covers up to 100m2) over the Underturf immediately before laying turf is also a great way to encourage early root growth and provide long lasting water retention around the root zone which means your lawn will dry out less between watering, protecting your investment for years and reducing your watering costs.
For best results and high yields of fruit and veg, consider adding Enriched Compost, Mushroom Compost, Rocky Point Active 8 soil improver and one of our organic fertilisers as required. If laying turf, consider adding some Sir Launcher for the best result. Always mulch your garden to prevent overheating soil, retain moisture and prevent weeds. Soil that is not mulched tends to go hard and dry and may repel water.
