The full length hollow concrete masonry block has deep recesses through end and centre webs that allow placement of steel reinforcement bars (often Y12 or N12 rebar) and concrete grout to reinforce masonry walls as required by engineers (for example for bond beamss in partition walls requiring fire rated design and for retaining walls).
